Long Battle with Hay Fever and how I Won It!

For those who don’t know hay fever is the type of allergy caused by pollen or dust in which the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose are inflamed, causing runny nose and watery eyes. I was one of those people suffering from hay fever every summer. In my case, I was reacting to both – dust and all the flowers, cut grass or hay. You can just imagine the joys of the spring and summer time! And of course, it wasn’t as simple as a runny nose and watery eyes for me. My throat would get itchy, I would sneeze a lot (I promise I am not exaggerating), eyes would get itchy, red and puffy/swollen.

I used to suffer enormously during the summer season. It got even worse through my teen years. For those who don’t know I just love summer and hot weather. And the summers in Lithuania are gorgeous, but I used to spend most of the time inside trying to stay away from nature. I missed playing in the fields with the hay, making wreaths and other decorations out of flowers and so on. I felt I missed out on so much. On a positive note, I was pleased to be exempted from all the work with the hay – cutting, turning, collecting it and getting it ready for the animals for winter time. Therefore, I became a pretty good cook because of all the jobs are given to me inside the house while everyone elsewhere working in the fields.

Missing out on summers and not being able to play outsides tough, but even worse that I couldn’t go and stay at my granny’s! Ever! Well, I could, but only for few hours’ tops. she lived in a very old wooden house and it didn’t agree with me.

Old wooden houses are full of dust mites that caused same hay fever reaction. Now with all that said, just don’t think I was ignored and not taken care of. Everyone tried to find a solution for me and help me in any way possible. I was brought to so many doctors, tried numerous amount of medication, acupuncture, salt baths, healing sunrooms etc. Nothing worked. And as mentioned earlier the allergies got even worse during my teenage years. I just had to live with it.

The years were passing by and medicine for hay fever has improved. My allergy went down and wasn’t so difficult to handle it anymore. I also found anti-allergy drugs that worked for me and carried it with me at all times. It was a solution for me at that time and I was pleased with it.

Fast forward 10 years I was in the same situation again. With my child. I gave birth to my daughter. 3 months later it was discovered that she has eczema. We went through all the things I went through when I was a child. I’m telling you, the number of strong steroid creams and tablets that she had to go through was absolutely crazy. I was getting very panicky of the number of chemicals that were used on my daughter’s skin on outside and inside. I knew all of the drugs and creams were only suppressing the allergy and not curing the cause. According to information on the packet, ‘Cetirizine (anti-allergy drugs) is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction’. So is this how allergy should be treated? By suppressing or blocking it? I didn’t know the way out of this cycle so I kept going with what worked at that time.

But only half year ago something amazing happened. I was introduced to water ionizing machines and purchased one for our household. After a thorough investigation, I have discovered that dehydration is the main cause of many diseases especially skin conditions and allergies. Ionized Kangen water is highly alkaline, hydrogen-rich and anti-oxidant. According to Dr Batmanghelidi, it works as the histamine regulator in the body. Therefore, whether we don’t suppress or block histamines, we regulate them!

Funny thing that I didn’t realize what was happening in my body and didn’t even notice that in the first 4 months of drinking this water during spring season I did not need to take any tablet of anti-allergy drugs! We humans don’t notice when we actually feel good and take it for granted. And the moment we get sick or don’t feel well we moan and complain. So then I started looking out for an explanation for my body’s positive reaction. What I discovered is that, according to Dr F. Batmanghelidj, author of Water: for Health, for Healing, for Life, dehydration is one of the primary causes of allergies, asthma and other lung conditions.

According to Nancy Hearn, if you suffer from allergies, they are caused by a histamine reaction in the body. What most people don’t know is that histamine production increases greatly when the body is dehydrated.

Since 75 percent of our population is estimated to be dehydrated, it is no wonder that so many people suffer from allergies and asthma!

In addition to increased histamine production, dehydration also affects antibody production. This means that the body will not have the adequate antibodies to deal with foreign invaders, such as pollen and other antigens (http://www.waterbenefitshealth.com/natural-allergy-remedies.html).

I can see amazing results and such an improvement in my hay fever now. Since I started drinking this water I feel really good and don’t need any anti-histamines 90% of the time. Same with my daughter – we have made few changes in her diet as well as making sure she is fully hydrated every day, and her skin looks just perfect. No more steroids, no more creams or tablets. Her skin is still dry, but we are only starting our journey in a more holistic and natural way. It’s all about the balance – looking after the diet and hydration. What we put in our bodies is important. I believe that by drinking ionized alkaline water I created a healthy environment for my body as well as my daughter’s to alleviate the allergies. Ionized Kangen water did not cure hay fever or eczema of course, but it created a balanced and healthy environment in our body, so the body could naturally heal itself. Sometimes it is a simple solution like water that is an answer to big challenges. It may seem too good to be true, but it is so worth trying it out. As Dr Batmanghelidj says: ‘You’re not sick, you’re thirsty’.
